Enthalpy of Hydration

General definition

Hydration energy (i.e. hydration energy or hydration enthalpy) is the energy that is released when water molecules attach to ions. It is a special case of solvation energy with water as a solvent (solvent). If, for example, a salt dissolves in water, the ions at the edge of the ion lattice are released from the lattice by water molecules and surrounded by them. (Source Wikipedia). Enthalpy of hydration is caused by the ion-water molecule interaction. The enthalpy of hydration is different; the enthalpy of purvection is precisely defined in terms of quantity, size and energy.
