Pollutants

General definition

An air pollutant is an admixture of air that can endanger both human health and the biosphere. The term air pollution is colloquially used to describe the introduction of air pollutants into outdoor air. With modern ventilation systems or comfort ventilation systems, fine dust particles are partially removed by absorption in coarse and fine dust filters. The origin of an air pollutant can be both natural (e.g. sulfur dioxide, SO2, from volcanoes) and anthropogenic (caused by humans). Air pollutants that endanger health worldwide include particulate matter, ozone and nitrogen dioxide in particular.
